The Advantages
THE ADVANTAGES
1. The biggest advantage of this plan is that the Westbound Traffic between Khodadad Circle & Sena Bhavan will move very smoothly and likewise the Eastbound Traffic too will move very smoothly since all of the East & West bound traffic does not intersect anywhere with one another and plus both these roads are easily going to be at least 4 Lane wide roads.  In fact, in all likelihood, they may turn out to be 6 Lane roads with some additional tweaking** which can be and should be done right away along with the execution of this plan.  (Observe the placement of A1 on the Map)
2. The other biggest advantage of the plan is that the Eastbound Traffic that comes from both Savarkar Marg & from Gokhale Road onto the S. K. Bole Road, just to go to East, will not get in the busiest of the Dadar areas which already has been leading to a daily traffic jam on the S. K. Bole Road.  This traffic does not get into Dadar for shopping.  It gets there only to go to the East.  This way only the shoppers will get into Dadar’s market areas and Dadar will not be used as a thorough-fare.  This way the criss-crossing of the Eastbound & Westbound Traffic in front of Plaza is permanently eliminated.  (Observe the placement of A2 on the Map)
3. In fact, like at Portuguese Church, even at Siddhivinayak, the Eastbound Traffic need not go on to S. K. Bole Road.  It can go straight up to Yes Bank on Veer Savarkar Marg itself and then turn right on to the Pandurang Naik Marg, and further up on to the New Tilak Bridge.  This way the Siddhivinayak junction as well as Agarbazar areas including Portuguese Church and surrounding areas will not clog at all.  (Observe the placement of A2 on the Map)
4. The Pandurang Naik Marg is already a One-Way between Dilip Gupte Road and Raja Badhe Chowk.  If we make the entire Pandurang Naik Marg a One-Way from Savarkar Marg up to the ramp-up then the traffic will move very smoothly on to the New Tilak Bridge.  And the present day traffic that goes to Raja Badhe Chowk via Dilip Gupte Road & Pandurang Naik Marg can be diverted from the Keluskar Road itself towards Raja Badhe Chowk via Shivaji Park Road No. 2. (Observe the placement of A3 on the Map)
5. Presently a small portion of the Westbound Traffic goes on to the R. K. Vaidya Marg opposite the Veer Kotwal Garden.  This irritates the Eastbound Traffic on the S. K. Bole Road.  In the new plan their criss-crossing is permanently eliminated.  That portion of the traffic which wishes to get into Dadar can get there from the Ram Maruti Road with only one change, in that the Ram Maruti Road and the Ganesh Peth Lane will have to interchange their One-Way directions.  (Observe the placement of A4 on the Map)
6. Today, there is no provision for the Westbound Traffic to go to the Senapati Bapat Road.  Earlier this traffic used to get onto the J. K. Sawant Marg opposite Shivaji Mandir (and now, despite the dividers, they take U-turns opposite Senabhavan) but this U-turning leads to a terrible jam of the Eastbound Traffic on the N. C. Kelkar Road.  In fact, the new plan addresses this desperate need of the Westbound Traffic to get onto the Senapati Bapat Marg by seamlessly connecting it with the J. K. Sawant Marg and beyond.  (Observe the placement of A5 on the Map)
7. Similarly, today, there is no provision for the Eastbound Traffic of Senapati Bapat Road (coming from the southern side) to go to the East directly and hence it goes through a lot of rigmarole of first getting on to V. S. Agashe Road, then Bhavani Shankar Road, then going past Kabutarkhana & the Jain Temple and then after circumventing the Maruti Mandir onto the Veer Kotwal Garden and further then on to the Tilak Bridge.  A simple middle-of-the-road ramp-up on the Senapati Bapat Marg connecting itself to the New Tilak Bridge will address this issue.  Likewise, the Eastbound Traffic of Senapati Bapat Road (coming from the northern side) has to first get on to Bal Govindas Road, then J. K. Sawant Marg, then N. C. Kelkar Road and then on to Tilak Bridge.  Again a simple middle-of-the-road ramp-up on the Senapati Bapat Marg connecting itself to the New Tilak Bridge will address this issue.  (Observe the placement of A6 & A7 on the Map)
8. Also today, there is no provision for the Westbound Traffic to go directly to Savarkar Marg.  Hence this traffic gets onto either the Gokhale Road upto the Portuguese Church or upto Saitan Chowky signals and then onto Savarkar Marg or worst still on to Keluskar Road at Shivaji Park.  There is no need to clog the Gokhale Road or Shivaji Park with this portion of the traffic.  The wide Dadasaheb Rege Road comes in handy here in taking this traffic onto Savarkar Marg.  (Observe the placement of A9 on the Map)
9. As of today, a small Dadar Station (E) or Matunga Market/ Podar-Ruia College bound traffic cannot go on to the Lakhamshi Nappu Road directly.  It compulsorily has to go through the Hindu Colony.  One simple sideways ramp-down (which further splits into two for northwards and southwards traffic) down on the New Tilak Bridge easily connects the traffic to the Lakhamshi Nappu Road saving the Hindu Colony by-lanes of traffic.  (Observe the placement of A8 on the Map)
10. Currently the intersection of the Tilak Road and the Mancherji Joshi Road on the eastern side of the Khodadad Circle leads to another jam that badly affects the overall traffic of Khodadad Circle.  Once when the Eastbound Traffic stops landing at Khodadad Circle then this intersection will become free of clogging.  (Observe the placement of A10 on the Map)
11. Once when these two one-way flyovers are operational i.e. the Old Tilak Bridge and the New Tilak Bridge, the segment of Ambedkar Road between Khodadad Circle and the Lady Jahangir Road will be rendered useless.  This can be put to use by moving the Outstation Bound Bus Stops here.  This will again unclog the other side of Ambedkar Road where we already have the Asiad Bus Stops and the Bombay-Pune Taxi Stand.  (Observe the placement of A11 on the Map)
12. The Tilak Bridge is already quite old and was possibly not designed to take up so much load/ weight.  Weight, because these days we have too much of a static traffic on it waiting to move either ways.  With this plan, and as soon as the Tilak Bridge becomes a 6 Lane One-Way road the Government gets an opportunity to actually shut down half of the Old Tilak Bridge by still keeping 3 lanes live.  This way 3 lanes of the 6 lanes can be replaced with a newly reconstructed Tilak Bridge and the same can be done with the other half, later.  If the Tilak Bridge is shut down, then the traffic situation will be terrible and Dadar as such will be in a perpetual limbo until it reopens.
13. This plan is future proof as well. E.g. With this plan, we can convert the Savarkar Marg and the Gokhale Road – Lady Jamshedji Road combo into a One-Way traffic all the way from St. Michael Church upto Century Bazar.  A simple One-Way Ramp on Dr. Annie Besant Road in front of Crompton Greaves (for the northwards bound traffic) can land itself on to the Appasaheb Marathe Road in front of the Hyundai Showroom.  With this, the Appasaheb Marathe Road, Shankar Ghanekar Marg, Gokhale Road and Lady Jamshedji Road can all join hands and become a single Northbound One-Way Road upto St. Michael Church and similarly the entire Savarkar Marg can become a Southbound One-Way upto Century Bazar.  Another similar One-way bridge will have to be built on Mahim Causeway in front of the maidan which will land itself down on Savarkar Marg after the Mahim Police Station by-lane.  Pune has already done such a One-Wayisation (if we can coin such a term) with their Jungli Maharaj Road & Ferguson College Road.  Mumbai too should follow suit.
* : The sliced off Veer Kotwal Garden in front of Plaza Theatre can be comfortably compensated for by getting the additional space from the present day two Westward bound traffic lanes as well as the entire open space in front of Shahade & Athavale up to the small traffic island in front of Prakash Stores.

** : The rampart like sloping sidewalls of Tilak Bridge can be filled with solid earth to make the Tilak Bridge still wider thus making it a 6 Lane Road.  In doing this the 6 pedestrian stairways will forever be lost but the same can permanently be replaced with Elevators which will suffice.
